There’s something timeless about an American diner.

Patrons of these establishments don’t turn to them over and over again for their elegant takes on modern cuisine or fancy gastronomy. Instead, diners routinely serve up the classics — pancakes, omelettes, sandwiches, coffee, and they do it with consistency and quality.

That’s the case with Sandy’s Restaurant, a diner in Highwood that’s been open since 1962.
